Alex Hunter, of Delano California, has had to fight many battles in his war against cancer.
Treatments, including radiation have taken their toll, and Alex’s teeth had to be removed.
Although his family does have insurance cover, it didn’t cover the cost of new dentures for the brave sixteen year old young man.
Thanks to the public around $15,000 has now been raised, more than the $11,000 Alex needs to have dentures fitted.
The insurance company is following their guidelines, and this problem is not uncommon.
Medical treatment which is considered to be necessary may well be covered, but getting new false teeth is not considered to be a medical issue.
Even those people with specific dental insurance plans can find that the cost of dentures is not covered by their policy.
When cover for false teeth are included, it often covers just the basic set of cheap dentures. Such things as dental implants or permanent dentures are considered as cosmetic dental treatments, and therefore unnecessary.
You may find that some of the cost of false teeth is included, but not all of it.
Alex Hunter is a brave young man who now knows that kind hearts still exist. Let’s hope his future is brighter than his past.
Not everyone can rely on donations to pay for their dentures, and if you don’t have a dental plan which covers the cost of extractions and new teeth, then you’ll have to look for other alternatives.
